We are excited to announce the call for applications for our upcoming Antiracist WAC Faculty Fellows cohort. As a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and land-grant university, our institution is committed to transformative and transferable learning opportunities–especially in writing experiences. This year-long professional development program speaks to that commitment: we invite instructors from across all disciplines to explore and implement evidence-based WAC principles through an antiracist lens.

Community Aspect

The Faculty Fellows program creates a dedicated community for instructors to reflect on their teaching practices, philosophies, assessment, and writing assignments in a collaborative environment. Whether you want to rethink how you give feedback, create meaningful low-stakes assignments, or redesign a syllabus to better foster student agency, this cohort will help you rethink and analyze your approach to writing in your classroom.

Previous expertise in antiracist work is not required. Whether you are very familiar with antiracist principles and pedagogies, or if you are just beginning to explore what that means for your classroom/disciplinary context, we welcome your perspective and willingness to be critical and curious about your current practices.

Program Structure and Commitment

The fellowship spans the full 2026-2027 academic year, with the culminating activities in the summer:

  • Fall 2026: Participants commit to two hours per week (one hour for in-person synchronous cohort meetings and one hour for asynchronous activities and readings).
  • Spring 2027: The cohort continues to meet weekly. Fellows will work with a mentor to develop an independent capstone project of their choosing, such as a course/assessment redesign, an academic article, or a departmental workshop.
  • Summer 2027: Fellows will finalize their capstone projects and participate in the WAC Symposium, where they will lead short professional development table sessions to share their insights with the broader campus community.

Eligibility and Compensation

This program is open to all teaching ranks, including Tenure-track, Continuing-track, and Career-track faculty, as well as Postdocs.

Faculty who complete the yearly program will receive a $1,000 stipend in compensation. International participants will receive their funding via professional development stipends.
